Land lots were won by the town founders in the 1820 Walton County Land Lottery and those lots became the village of Social Circle. Located at the intersection of two important Indian trails, the enter of town hosted a well with good water and welcomed weary travelers and locals alike. Legend says that the settlement received its name when a new traveler, impressed by the exuberant hospitality of a little group of congenial pioneers, remarked enthusiastically, "This surely is a social circle!" Social Circle is a name remembered by most and once visited, an experience not quickly forgotten. A town proud of its history and relaxed way of life, it maintains its turn-of-thecentury atmosphere. Slow down a little, relax, and enjoy the hospitality and the friendly people. The town plays
host to several restaurants including the renowned Blue Willow Inn Restaurant, considered the finest example of traditional Southern cooking in the Southeast. Social Circle’s large historic district has over 50 buildings on the National Register of Historic Places. These range from Greek Revival mansions and Victorian homes to the old mill and mill village cottages. Unique shops house antiques, art galleries, Dolls & Stuff for the little girl in all of us, old-time hardware store, and more. The Welcome Center houses the Heritage Museum and is staffed by Volunteer Ambassadors eager to share information about the town. Free Walking Tour brochures are available. Dine at the Blue Willow Inn Restaurant and Gift Shop. Enjoy Southern hospitality along with great Southern cooking of meats, vegetables, breads and desserts (lunch and dinner, 770-464-2131, 800-552-8813) or visit Blue Willow Village, a turn of the 20th century Victorian styled village of unique shops and a 1950s Soda Fountain.
